The National Focal Point (NFP) is designated by each country to be responsible on its behalf for liaison with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). In Sri Lanka, the Ministry assigned for the subject of Environment is the NFP for the implementation of the CBD and the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB).The Biodiversity Secretariat(BDS) of the Ministry assigned for the subject of Environment acts as the Operational Focal Point of CPB. BDS is responsible for performing the administrative functions required by the CPB
(Article 19) including the handling of notifications.
In Sri Lanka, Secretary, Ministry responsible for the subject of Environment is assigned as NFP for all functions related to CPB.
